Gwangju, Jeonnam and Jeonbuk Join hands for Universiade 2015

(GWANGJU = Yonhap News) The city of Gwangju, North Jeolla Province and South Jeolla Province decided to pool their resources and efforts for the successful opening of the Universiade Gwangju 2015.

Kang Woon-tae, Mayor of Gwangju and other officials from five district offices of Gwangju, Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, Jeonnam provincial office, nine cities and counties of Jeonnam, Jeonbuk provincial office and three cities counties of Jeonbuk held a conference and a ceremony for successful opening of the Universiade Gwangju 2015 on March 11 at the Gwangju city office.

The participants shared information about the sporting festival and discussed measures for cooperation.

The officials agreed to actively support improvements on stadiums, carry out regional civic movements, hold regional cultural and art events and recruit volunteers for the festival.

“More than 20,000 visitors from 170 nations around the world will come to Gwangju, Jeonnam and Jeonbuk,” said Kang. “We should take this opportunity to promote the regions’ brand values by keeping the cities and other districts clean and carrying out various campaigns to improve the civic consciousness.

Forty four facilities for the Summer Universiade will be located in Gwangju, 20 in Jeonnam and four in Jeonbuk.
