Writer administ Posted at 2010-11-15
According to Yonhap News,

The Organizing Committee for Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea (Chair Gang Dong-seok) said on November 9th that ‘the International Symposium on the Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea, World Ocean Forum’ would be held at BEXCO, Busan from November 15th to 17th.

The event will be co-hosted by the Organizing Committee for Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea, the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs, the City of Busan, and Korea Association of Marine Industry. About 2,000 marine experts around the world will gather for the event, the largest of its kind in Korea. They will talk about ‘Blue Economy,’ which Expo 2012 Yeosu, Korea wants to achieve.

‘Blue Economy’ is to minimize resource waste by adopting a new economic system based on oceans. Various measures and suggestions for ‘Blue Economy’ are expected to contribute to marine policies of participating countries and the global marine industry.

The event will consist of six special sessions and eight general sessions on new drug development from marine creatures, 21st century alternative energy utilizing tidal power, desalination projects, marine robot technology development for the marine industry, and international cooperation in ocean farming.

Participants will also deal with issues of Maldives, which is at risk of being submerged because of the rising sea level stemming from climate change.

An official of the Organizing Committee said “this event will spread the theme of Expo 2012 Yeosu, Korea, ‘the Living Ocean and Coast,’ across the world."
