According to Yonhap News,
‘International Sports Climbing Center’ will be built at Mt. Buju, Okam-dong, Mokpo City, Jeonnam-do (South Jeolla Province).
Mokpo City said on December 27th that it confirmed the basic design and will break ground with an aim of completing the center late next year at a report session in the presence of Mokpo Mayor Jeong Jong-deuk.
The City will invest KRW 1.8 billion to build ‘International Sports Climbing Center’ on the area of 2,000 m2, linked with the nearby course for mountain bikes.
Mokpo will build seven walls, 16m in height, and a 6-meter-height outdoor stadium, measuring up to the international standards.
The City is committed to winning the bid for Sports Climbing World Cup, which is organized by the Union of International Alpine Association and will be held in October 2012. About 80 member countries will participate in the event.
Sports climbing is a style of rock climbing, and players are rated through competition. Difficulties, speed, etc. are measures for rating. Sports climbing can be played wherever, for example, indoor or outdoor stadium, or artificial or natural rocks.
