Writer administ Posted at 2011-03-11
According to Yonhap News,

The United Nations (UN) has confirmed to join Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea.

The organizing committee of Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea said on February 23rd that UN officially notified it would join the Expo in the letter written in the name of Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

UN is known to have designated the supervisory body and the official in charge of UN exhibition rooms to participate in the Expo.

UN will be assigned exhibition rooms in the international organization hall along with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA), and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) which have confirmed their participation already. UN’s participation is expected to further enrich the exhibition.

The organizing committee believes that UN’s decision will encourage more countries to confirm their participation, in that UN is the pillar of international organizations.

A total of 85 countries have determined to take part in the Expo, as Argentina, Indonesia, and Monaco join the list, bringing Yeosu closer to its goal of attracting 100 countries.
