This is a bay surrounded by Yeosu peninsular and Goheung peninsular like a lake and has a beautiful scenery made of wide mud flat, small and large islands, and surrounding mountains.

It is 8㎞ away from downtown of Sunchon, and made of mud flat, reed field and salt marsh. Reed colony stretching to the mud flat of Sunchon Bay is the largest in our country.

Reed flowers, red turkeys and white migratory birds are prides of this area. In particular, as Sunchon Bay has preserved mud flat, salt marsh and reed colonies well because of few sources of pollution, it has plenty of sea food, and is famous as a field of education and international academic research which has 11 kinds of rare birds and 200 Korean migratory birds: hooded cranes, Natural Monument No. 228, Saunders's gulls, storks, black-faced spoonbills and white herons.
