The Cheonsadaegyo Bridge is scheduled to be opened at 3 p.m., on April 4.
When the Cheonsadaegyo Bridge is officially opened, it will become off-limits to pedestrians, bicycles, cultivators, motorcycles, and more. Thus, this is the first and last opportunity to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the archipelago while running on the bridge.
The construction of the Cheonsadaegyo Bridge began in 2010 and is scheduled to be completed in April 2019. As the fourth-longest bridge (7.22 kilometers) in Korea, it is the only combination of cable-stayed and suspension bridges.
The length of the cable-stayed bridge on Amtaedo Island reaches 1,004 meters, symbolizing 1,004 islands of Sinan-gun. It features the world's largest high-rise main tower with a height of 195 meters. The suspension bridge on Aphaedo Island can be monumental one in the global bridge history as the world's first suspension bridge that crosses straits.
When the Cheonsadaegyo Bridge, a landmark in the South-Western Region, is opened, the five islands of the central region in Sinan-gun (Jaeundo, Amtaedo, Palgeumdo, Anjwado, and Jarado islands) will be connected to Mokpo. The expansion of land traffic networks allows calling ports of Mokpo and Songgong Ports to be arranged forward to the Port of Namgang on Amtaedo and the Port of Bokho on Anjwado. As a result, it will take just one hour to take a boat on the islands such as Bigeumdo, Dochodo, Heuksando, Hauido, Sinuido, and Jangsando islands.
This innovative improvement of accessibility is believed to make a great contribution to the revitalization of the local economy by reducing the costs of logistics and bolstering the tourism.
