Korea Tourism Organization’s Recommended Destinations for January

Writer 관리자 Posted at 2018-03-19
With PyeongChang 2018 only a month away, Korea Tourism Organization announced recommended a list of winter sport attractions to enjoy this January. The list includes immersing in winter sports at Taeneung International Skating Rink, Kolon Hiking School Indoor Ice Climbing Wall, and Seoul Plaza Ice Skating Rink in Seoul; beating the winter cold with a sled ride at Pocheon Sanjeonghosu Lake and Uijeongbu Indoor Ice Rink in Gyeonggi-do; trekking and wall climbing at Gugok Falls in Gangwon-do; skating at Gwangju Indoor Ice Skating Rink and Gwangju City Hall Outdoor Ice Skating Rink inn Gwangju; and lastly, enjoying winter wonderland at Bonghwa Buncheon Station and Cheongsong Eoreumgol Valley in Gyeongsangbuk-do.

At Taeneung International Skating Rink, you can experience skating right next to Korea’s national athletes at a 400-m long ice rink. If you would like to enjoy more of the city view, then Seoul Plaza Ice Skating Rink, which opened on December 22, is your perfect choice.

At Pocheon Sanjeonghosu Lake, you can glide across large open lake on your sled, or even enjoy a ride on an ice slide at Pocheon Baegun Valley Dongjangkun Festival. If you want to challenge yourself with a winter sport, then Uijeongbu Indoor Ice Rink is a must.

If you want to experience the host city instead, then a walk through Odaesan Mountain Seonjaegil road will be a treat. The trail that connects Woljeongsa Temple and Sangwonsa Temple is an easy trekking course of 9 km. A course along the lake gets covered with snow during winter for an even more magnificent sight. You can also stop by Pyeongchang Trout Festival while you are there. You can also beat the cold by ice wall climbing at Chuncheon Gugok Falls. The 50-m high walls with large icicles are jaw dropping.

Gwangju Indoor Ice Skating Rink stays below freezing temperature all year round and allows up to 500 people skating at the same time. But if you still want to enjoy skating under the clear blue sky, then Gwangju City Hall Outdoor Ice Skating Rink is the place to go.

There are so many places to enjoy winter sports, even the cold weather can’t take the fun away!
